Meta Ads MCP: Meta's official connector and Adrails compared

Meta Ads AI Connectors, launched on 29 April 2026, give Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients 29 tools on the Marketing API, from reporting to campaign creation, with everything created left paused. The Adrails MCP server covers Meta Ads and Google Ads with 63 tools, reads store and revenue data next to spend, prepares every change for one click in Adrails, and runs agents and automations when no chat is open. Many teams will connect both.

Meta's connector and Adrails, side by side

Both are remote MCP servers: you paste an address into the client and sign in. What they reach, and what happens to a change, differs.

01

What a Meta Ads MCP server is

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard that lets an AI client such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor call tools on a server. A Meta Ads MCP server exposes tools that read and change Meta ad accounts. The client lists the tools, the assistant picks one from your question, the server runs it against the Marketing API and returns the result in the conversation.

Until April 2026 every such server was third party. Since then Meta runs its own, and the question for a paid media team is no longer whether to connect an assistant, but which server, or which pair of servers, to connect.

02

What Meta's official connector ships

Meta Ads AI Connectors launched on 29 April 2026 as an open beta, with a hosted MCP server at mcp.facebook.com/ads and a command line tool for Claude Code, Codex and scripts. You sign in with your Facebook Business login and choose one of three consent levels: read only, read and write, or read, write and financial. There is no developer app to create, no app review and no access token to rotate.

The server exposes 29 tools. Five create and update campaigns, ad sets and ads and switch them on. Three list ad accounts, entities and Pages. Ten manage product catalogs, feeds, product sets and their diagnostics. Four read dataset details, quality, statistics and errors. Seven cover insights: advertiser context, anomaly signals, auction and industry benchmarks, performance trends, an opportunity score and help articles. Everything the connector creates lands paused, and a person switches it on.

03

Where the connector stops

The connector is the Marketing API in a conversational shape. It returns what the API returns, for the accounts your login can reach, within the same rate limits. It does not open Meta's bidding or auction internals, and it does not reach anything outside Meta: your store, your payment processor or your Google Ads account.

It also only works while a chat is open. There is no schedule, no threshold and no record of a change beyond Meta's own activity history. A budget change asked in Claude is written as asked, and the client's permission prompt is the only review step.

04

What the Adrails MCP server adds

Adrails runs one MCP server at adrails.ai/api/mcp for Meta Ads and Google Ads. The client registers itself, and the sign-in asks for one workspace and its permissions: read access covers every ad account of the workspace, and preparing changes is a separate permission that only an owner or admin grants. Its 63 tools are the ones the Adrails agents use, so a question about ROAS over a period, a creative review or a budget recommendation returns the report the workspace itself would show.

The reads go past the ad account. Shopify, Stripe, Klaviyo, Triple Whale, PostHog, RevenueCat and Google Drive are read next to spend, so revenue sits beside the campaign that drove it, and a period comparison can span every account of a client at once.

Every change is a proposal. A pause, a budget move of at most 30%, a duplicate, a split test or a new launch comes back with a link to the Review advertising change page, where an owner or admin applies it. Adrails reads Meta again before applying, blocks the change if the entity moved in the meantime, and keeps an undo while Meta allows one. A proposal expires after 30 minutes.

05

Agents and automations run without a chat

The same tools power workflows that run on a schedule or a threshold: a Monday report per client, an alert when CPA crosses a line, a pause when a budget pace runs away. The assistant can prepare those too, from the conversation. This is the part a connector to the Marketing API has no equivalent for, because the Marketing API has nothing that runs on its own.

06

Use both

The two servers do not compete on every job. Meta's connector is the only one of the two that opens catalogs, feeds, product sets and dataset quality, and the only one that writes a bid strategy or a placement change straight away. Adrails is the one that reads across accounts and platforms with revenue, prepares launches from a brief, and keeps working after the conversation ends.

Claude and ChatGPT accept several connectors in one conversation, so add both and let the question pick the server. Name the server when two could answer.

07

How to connect each one

In Claude, both go through Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector. In ChatGPT, both go through Developer mode and a custom MCP server with OAuth. In Claude Code, Adrails is one command and Meta's CLI is a package install.

  • Meta: address https://mcp.facebook.com/ads, then your Facebook Business login and a consent level
  • Adrails: address https://adrails.ai/api/mcp, then your Adrails sign-in, a workspace and its permissions
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http adrails https://adrails.ai/api/mcp
  • Meta's CLI: pip install meta-ads-cli, for Claude Code, Codex and scripts

FAQ

Common questions

Is Meta's Ads MCP server free?

Yes during the open beta that began on 29 April 2026. Meta has not announced pricing after the beta. You pay your ad spend as before.

Does Meta's connector work in ChatGPT?

Yes. Meta's help center documents Claude and ChatGPT, and any client that supports remote MCP can add the address. Whether you can add a custom connector depends on your plan in that client.

Can Meta's connector switch my ads on?

Everything it creates lands paused, and a separate tool switches an entity on when you ask. In Adrails a launch is built paused too, and switching it on is a second proposal that lists every budget that starts spending.

Do I need a Meta developer app for either server?

No. Meta's connector uses your Facebook Business login. Adrails connects Meta once in the workspace, and the assistant signs in to Adrails, never to Meta.

Can I add both servers to Claude?

Yes. Claude and ChatGPT accept several connectors in one conversation, and the assistant picks the tool from your question. Name the server when both could answer, for example for a spend figure.
